New Ride
So as you can see from the previous post....I have a bit of anger in me. Also, I am 41 and way out of shape. The years are creeping up on me.
Some time ago I had resolved that if I got a job near my home, I would take measures to remedy both. Well, my bluff was called. I just got a job that is 6.5 miles from home. Too close to drive (by motorcycle or truck) and too far to walk. I wont do the MC and truck thing because it is more harmful and gas wasting to do those short hops than it is to let them sit with abattery tender. Especially in the cold months. The short hop doesnt let the condensation and such in the motor get burned off properly.
True I could walk it. But I'm not quite that motivated.
So I ordered a bicycle.
Egad.
Yes I will become something I loathe: one of those self righteous pricks riding a bicycle with a smug smile. Of course the route is mostly uphill on the way home...so that smug smile will be exchanged for a wheezing rictus for a couple months at least.
As for the bike; I opted for a new one versus a used one. Finding a bicycle for me in the used market is sort of like finding shoes for me in a flea market. Not a whole lot that fits and is in good shape. Luckily for me Kona makes an inexpensive commuter built to their high standards. And it comes in myfavorite color. Flat Black.
The shock came whe I realized that all the extras would effectively double the cost of the bike: Helmet, under shorts, mirrors, bar extensions, panniers and rack. And more to come I am sure.

(bah. photos.blogger.com is busted at the moment. No ebedded pics for me. The link above shows the bike)
