Hypocrites

I hate hypocrites. Most folks do. But usually people think of drunken priests thumping a pulpit, bellowing about sobriety. Or the nosy neighbor concerned with your kids behaviors while hers run wild.

In this particular case it is even more heinous because it is my own home state playing the hypo card. You would think that before a bill makes it to a law and recieves the proper scrutiny by a number of people, any such silliness would be noted and the bill sent packing. But the unfortunate reality is that the government is hypocritical in its own right by protesting all the good and patriotic things in life while taking money like brazen whores. I refer to the new law making it illegal in my home state to access gambling sites. This was proposed, designed and pushed by the local tribal gambling corporations in order to gain a monopoy on gaming. Then they had the sheer brass to claim a moral high ground and say it is to nanny-coddle the local citizenry and prevent us (grown adults no less) from becoming gambling addicts.

As if that werent enough..it appears that it is now illegal to not just engage in gambling....but to discuss, present, opine, coach, muse or link to any gambling sites as well.

From the Fine Article:
"It's what the feds would call 'aiding and abetting,' " says the director of the state's gambling commission, Rick Day. "Telling people how to gamble online, where to do it, giving a link to it — that's all obviously enabling something that is illegal."

Amazing. Just stand back a moment and let that sink in for a moment.

Wow.

So by that same logic, reading, discussing, posting, musing and linking to anything on guns makes me an accessory to murder. Or to be more accurate...describing, say in a fictional story, a murder would make me culpable for all murders because I described how one might go about it.

Go to http://www.partypoker.com/ everyone! it's fun. You can make money!

there. I just opened myself to a Class C Felony charge:

" (c) For a class C felony, by imprisonment in a state correctional institution for a maximum term of not more than five years, or by a fine in an amount fixed by the court of not more than ten thousand dollars, or by both such imprisonment and fine."

Here's the specific text of the law:

Whoever knowingly transmits or receives gambling information by
telephone, telegraph, radio, semaphore, the internet, a
telecommunications transmission system, or similar means, or knowingly
installs or maintains equipment for the transmission or receipt of
gambling information shall be guilty of a ((gross misdemeanor)) class
C felony

Kind of steep for discussing or linking to online gambling, dontcha think? To put it in perspective...I can get the same punishment for letting my dog lick my balls. Yes it is true. Another law passed this year also makes it a Class C Felony for someone to engage in sexual activity with an animal. I dont necessarily object to that. Except to point out that:

1) the amended gambling law is an update of a law that is decades old. Where the bestiality law is brand spanking new. So for decades it was illegal to gamble over the phone, radio, etc...but it was perfectly okay to fuck a sheep, pig, goat, horse, german shepard, gerbil or whatever suited your tastes.

2) Somehow these are both worthy of equivalent punishments? By the way some other Class C felonies: possessing a machine gun and several Gang-Related criminal activities. And something that is in a lower punishment range: Computer Tresspass. i.e. if I bust into Amazon's computers, intending to steal every one of the credit card records...but only manage to get busted for the entry....I get a lower sentence than publishing that link up above.

So with that in mind....I'm going to post every online gambling link I can find. Maybe if I put up enough links I will get the death penalty.
